Week of September 28, 2009

Shirley:

Our calendar theme for the month of September was New Beginnings and for us it truly has been an amazing experience.  During our special group time together we start by bringing our square carpet rugs into the coat room and placing them in a big circle.  Then the music begins.  You hear  We are the dinosaurs marching marching ...... and we start to march around the circle.... and we stop and eat our food ....then we take a rest in our nest and then we roar!!!!!  Next we sit down and put our feet inside the circle and do our Stompers song where we get to do it first regular speed then louder and then really quiet.  We sing our ABC's and count how many Stompers are here today.  We also take turns passing an item like a doll or a dinosaur while we sing  Who holding the doll is Shirley ....and now it's time for Shirley to pass the doll to .... We play a game where we get to touch different items on our mural in our room and say them out loud. At the end of circle we make a big mountain with the carpets and choose if we want to do a project or play.

Our  project explorations has included finger painting, painting with cars and trains then washing them in soapy water, easel, print making, collage with glitter and glue,  and shaving cream and eye droppers with different color water colors.

We have also been on our first walk on Oak Manor Street.  We use a long rope to hold while we walk.  If anyone lets go  we all stop.  We was someone walking their dogs, and old truck next to cactus, lots of cars and trucks that were so shinny that we could see our reflection, a dog poop sign, kids at Manor playing, Monique's bike and smelled lavender and rosemary plants.

We have had an awesome month getting to know each other and becoming really good friends and look forward to next month's theme Sheros and Heroes.
